Barbara S. Schlichtman is a member attorney with the Maine Center for Elder Law, LLC, with offices in Portland and Kennebunk, Maine. She helps clients with:
- estate planning,
- special needs planning
- estate administration,
- MaineCare (Medicaid) planning and applications,
- and post-settlement planning in personal injury cases.
Focusing on quality of life is important to her practice. She assists clients whether they want to pre-plan or to resolve a crisis. She develops collaborative relationships with her clients, as well as their financial advisors and other professionals so that her clients can have peace of mind in the event of incapacity, frailty or death.
Barbara is on the executive committee for Legal Services for the Elderly in Maine, the Maine Justice Action Group, a member and the 2017 Vice Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Academy of Special Needs Planners and ElderCounsel, LLC, a national organization of attorneys specializing on elder law issues. She is also on the board for the Peaks Island Fund and teaches elder law as an adjunct faculty member that University of Maine School of Law.
Barbara earned her Bachelor’s of Journalism degree (1989) and J.D. (1992) from the University of Missouri and lives on Peaks Island with her husband and two sons.
