Martin C. Womer, Attorney at Law

Martin C. Womer is of-counsel to Maine Center for Elder Law and has assisted clients with Medicaid (MaineCare) planning and applications, planning for VA Pension with Aid and Attendance eligibility, trust and estate planning and settlement, and related probate matters.

Marty received his Bachelor’s degree, Cum Laude, from Colby College (1975) in Chemistry, and his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law (1997). He began his career as a research chemist, and later worked in the field of land conservation. After attending law school in his early 40s, Marty was a Senior Planner with the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission, and then entered private practice of law. Taking care of his mother after the death of his father exposed him to elder law, which has been his focus since 2002.

Marty is active in ElderCounsel, LLC, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association, which he has chaired or co-chaired several times since 2002.  He is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs (Veterans Administration). Marty founded the Maine Center for Elder Law, LLC in 2007, and served as its President and Managing Attorney for the first 10 years, prior to the Center's merger with Perkins Thompson, P.A. in September of 2019.

Articles written by Marty have been published by the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, most recently "Private Loans and Reverse Mortgages in Medicaid and VA Pension Planning" published in the spring 2019 edition of NAELA News. This article is available for reading or downloading in the "Articles" section (under the Resources tab) of the Center website.
